Are You Going to Jump on the iPhone Bandwagon?
So the iPhone is coming out in a couple weeks. Now that we’re closer to the reality of actually owning one, are you going to spend the $500 to be the first to have one?
I’m still not sure that I want to replace my pocket pc and my iPod with one phone. But given how quickly iPods caught on, is this a viable alternative? And will they take over the market as quickly as the iPod did?
If you do get an iPhone, let me know. I’d like to hear how people like it and if it’s worth the money to switch.
Greg,
I actually went by the AT&T store off of 59 this afternoon to get information on the device - and they had nothing. I was considering this phone, but I think that I'll wait for more real world reviews before I commit not just to the phone, but to the 2 year AT&T service agreement.
I have been hearing rumors about Apple entering the cell phone market since mid 2006. At the time an Apple cell phone seemed like a long shot edition to an already crowded cell phone market. January 2007 rolled around and Apple announced the iPhone. Apple says it is a revolutionary internet device, a break through cell phone and a wide screen iPod.
I love sci-fi.. books, tv shows, movies. In so many entries in the sci-fi genera you see people walking around with a little pad in their hand that allows them to do work easily. I know this is just Hollywood magic, but I think those stories inspire technology in real life. So far every PDA or Smart Phone I have used has not been able to deliver a user experience that feels smooth or easy to use. A lot of the devices seem to hide options deep inside cumbersome menu structures or give a feel like windows was just copied down onto a very small screen. These phones try to be every thing to every one but lack a user interface that won't leave people frustrated. From the glimpses I have seen of the iPhone it appears to be intuitive. Maybe even just what I want out of a Smart Phone.
After seeing the demos of this device I am very excited about it. It is running OS X and full versions of all the software on it. It is an iPod with a 3.5 inch wide screen. That alone is enough to sell me on it. I wont know if it will live up to all the hype till I get mine on June 29th, but I cant wait to find out!
I talked to the ATT Store near my house this past weekend. They told me some details. The iPhone will go on the market at 6:00pm Central time. All the ATT stores will close at 4:30pm Central Time to get ready. The voice rate plans will be the same as they are now. We have no details on the internet plans for the iPhone. No details on if a new 2 year contract will be required to buy the phone at full price or if a new 2 year contract would give a discount for the phone.
